02Answers and explanations
The answer to every question above, and why the other options are not it.
Q1 — Listening
B · Nine dollars
With strawberry the cocktail is 'the normal price', and the normal price is nine ('six dollars instead of nine'). Six dollars is only for the mango one.
Transcript: What's the cocktail of the day? It's a mango daiquiri, madam, at six dollars instead of nine. Sounds nice, but I don't like mango. Could you make it with strawberry? I don't mind paying more. Of course, madam. One strawberry daiquiri, but then it's the normal price.
Q2 — Grammar
C · fell
The fall is a short action that interrupts a longer one ('was clearing'), so it takes the past simple: 'fell'. 'was falling' would present it as a long action in progress.
Q3 — Grammar

'ago' marks a finished moment in the past and always goes with the past simple: 'left'. The present perfect 'has left' cannot be used with 'ago'.
Q4 — Grammar
C · Before I joined the ship, I used to work in a hotel.
For a past habit or situation that no longer exists, 'used to' + infinitive is used: 'used to work'. 'was used to' means 'be accustomed to' and needs the '-ing' form.

C · Please wash your hands before you enter the galley.
After 'Please' an instruction uses the base form of the verb: 'Please wash'. 'Please to wash' is wrong because the imperative does not take 'to'.

B · The correct photos
The photographer offers two options and she answers 'I'd rather have the right photos'. The 'full refund' is the option she does not choose.
Transcript: I bought this photo package yesterday, but half the pictures are of another family. I'm so sorry, madam. I can print the right photos for you now, or give you a full refund to your onboard account. I'd rather have the right photos, please. They're a present for my parents.

Beer served from the tap is 'on draught'. 'On ice' means kept cold with ice and 'on the side' is said of something served separately, next to the dish; neither is about beer from the tap.

C · sanitise
To 'sanitise' is to treat an already clean surface with a chemical or heat so that bacteria fall to a safe level; it is the step after cleaning and rinsing. 'Rinse' only means to pass clean water over something and 'polish' means to rub it until it shines; neither reduces bacteria.

C · flickering
A light that goes on and off quickly is 'flickering'. 'Dripping' and 'leaking' are used for water or other liquids that escape, not for a light.

Dates are said with ordinal numbers, and the ordinal of 'three' is 'third'. 'the three of May' uses the cardinal number and 'thirth' does not exist.
